In my home port of Pentwater MI which is 12 miles south of Ludington MI, Sharri and I had an interesting season. Engine trouble plagued us right out of the boat ramp and never got any better. An end of season autopsy revealed a burnt piston and blown head gasket in the starboard and valve train problems on the port side. Top speed of 10 mph on a calm day ! This forced us to fish close to shore and work hard on the fish that we could locate. It was a great learning experience. Catch rate per hour didn't change from past years and remained close to 3.5+ fish per hour for the season. Top Spoons for season in catch order were: 300HS-K-40 Pink Ice Glow 300HS-K-43 Lemon Ice Glow 300HS-K-44 Blue Ice Glow 300HS-K-76 LemonFire Glow 300HS-K-23 Blue DragonFly Glow These 5 spoon colors represent 80% of our catch Top HorseFlys for the season in catch order were: 985-24 - Sea Mist 985-31 Atomic Green Glow These represent 75% of our Fly bites. Several of our Proto-Type spoons showed promise in the 2009 season and will be further tested in 2010. More on that later... Capt. Dave German |
