Fishing in Muskegon is still red HOT! Tuesday was the marathon day having two trips scheduled. After the first trip with 4 anglers resulted in a limit of big kings in a mere hour an a half, a couple phone calls arranged for the second trip to show early and also squeeze in a third trip. The second trip of two anglers was in the middle of the day but action was still good. we boxed 5 kings and tossed back two sheepies on about 15 bites. The evening trip resulted in similar results with 6 big kings in the box out of about 12 or 13 bites. Typical hot baits include Atomic Green Glow Horse Fly (taking 10 of 14 bites in the morning), Seamist Horsefly, tiger roughy, and various plugs in Pearl, glow, green glow and yellow. Get out there while it's HOT HOT HOT. Openings available this weekend!!!! Captain Paul Kik Salmonhead Charters LLC 616 299 1349 www.salmonheadcharters.com |

Set up around 4:15 in about 50 FOW, promptly took a 5 or 6 lb laker heading north on a Nailer Mixed Veggies spoon. Turned around and headed back south toward the pier. Took a small 8 lb king in 48-50 foot on the troll back, then missed another one right in front of the pier. Continued south for about 1/2 mile with nothing going, so we switched around and headed back north and slid into 40 FOW. Rods lit up around 6:30 right in front. Was a blur for the next 45 min, but took 5 more kings (ranging from 13 - 19.2 lbs) in that time and lost 2 others. Nailer Mixed Veggies went 2 times. Nailer Mashed Mahi Glow plug went 2 times. Nailer Blue Dolphin 1 time, other hits were on Green Spinny and Green fly. Fish came right off the bottom. Pulled lines and we back at dock by 7:45. Ended up 7 for 11. Capt. Saturday morning dawned clear and pretty calm. The calmness became a 2' chop pretty quickly. We picked at the fishing going 5 for 6, 2 good kings, one laker, one steelie and a medium king. Big kings both came on SeaWeed Hrorseflies trailing an 11" green E chip. The rest came on Nailers in Mashed bannana glow (12), Blueberry glow (19) and one on a green plug. After a very short turn around time at the dock, we went out for the afternoon trip and were greeted by rising seas well into the 3-4' range. We ran 8 miles north and planned to ride them back. We got most rods in the water and picked up two small kings, both on horseflies again. Seaweed and seamist. After bouncing around for a couple more hours and missing a couple fish, lots of barfing, the customers claimed no more and we headed in. Sunday was picture perfect with a light NE wind. We cleared the piers and ran to 50 fow just north. Set up shop and whacked two quickly on the high diver set 60 back with Rasberry Glow (50) northport Nailer. After that, it was picking away for 4 hours to get our 9 kings. We finished 9 for 12 and flies were hot. all action was on Seaweed, Seamist and Atomic Green glow Horse Flies. Flashers were double crush glow (11"), Green E Chip (11" & 8"), Blue E chip (8") and mountain dew E Chip (8"). Our fish were in 50-75 fow and 30-60 down. Hit the water about 6:30 and sat down in 60 fow to set lines on a westerly troll. We started hitting fish in 85 fow and in the 120's and 130's things got busy. After dodging other boats and zig zagging a bit we covered water out to 160. Finishing 14 for 19 with 2 undersized lakers keeping 12. Mixed bag of 3 lakers and the rest kings up to 14#. Seaweed and SeaMist HorseFlies did the best behind blue and green E chip flashers. The wire divers back 150-220 were best taking 7 of the bites, with a # ball down the chute taking 2 and the mid diver with Dark Seaweed taking one. Northport Nailer spoons took the rest of the bites on riggers, copper and core. Blueberry glow (19) took 3 bites and greenberry glow (18), mixed veggies (70), Mashed bannana Glow (12), all taking one. A couple prototypes took fish as well as the NEW northport Nailer Plug taking a real nice king on a 3 color. Get out there while the fishing is good! Captain Paul www.salmonheadcharters.com |

After my crew of 2 showed up a tad late, we shoved off at the crack of 9 this morning to be greeted by a stout 1-2' chop from the SW. After chugging out to the 180 range and dodging the handful of boats, we set up shop and headed sw. We took a coho on the set up and a bit later a nice laker. The cold side of the temp break was not treating us well so we crossed over to the warm side and things got interesting. We picked away and finished 11 dor 16 with 5 lakers, 5 kings and the one coho. Northport Nailers from 8 colors of lead down to 350 copper and Horse Flies from 250-350 on the wire divers and 155 down on the rigger. Sea Weed, Sea Mist and Mirage flies took 7 bites. Nailers in Bloody CLown (86), Greenberry glow (18), Lime Ice (42), Orange Ice (41), Orange Candy Corn (38) and one gold/ orange/ black prototype did the work for the rest of the fish. Kings were suspended and lakers were on the bottom 1/3 of the water column. The temp break was 4-5 degrees. Captain Paul www.salmonehadcharters.com |

Fishing continues to be stable in Muskegon. The morning trip we picked away at the fish and ended with a respectable 9 boated from 11 bites. We found the fish in 200-240 fow in the fog. Leadcore and copper did most the lifting for us taking all but 3 of the bites. Only one bite on the seamist Horse Fly, all the rest on Northport Nailer spoons. We found a few steelhead on top and they bit Orange Ice (41) 3 times off the 3 color. Prototype Natural Born Hornet took 3 bites on the 300 copper and the remaining bites were on Orange candy corn (38), Greenberry glow (18) and lime ice (42). The afternoon trip was much the same. After a slow start, we found fish slightly shallower than the morning run in 180-150 fow.We finished with 11 in the box and one undersized lake trout from 15 bites. Seaweed Horse Fly took 3 bites and Sea Mist took 1 set deep on the wire divers behind 8" E chip flashers. Spoons took the rest. No clear winners with the bites being spread out between Mashed bannana (11), Mashed bannana glow (12), Sunfire (69), Greenberry glow (18), Lime ice (42), Orange Ice (41), lemonfire glow (76), Natural Born Hornet (prototype), and the Wild Thing in #33. The fish were a mixed bag with one steelhead, 4 lakers and the rest kings. |

The Pentwater Sport Fishing Association had it's 24 Annual Memorial Tournament this past weekend with 80 boats participating. Fishing was best on Saturday, with many fish weighed in, Sunday was also good but with choppier waters and Monday no one went out because of the wind and waves. Many good fish caught, with a much heavier catch this year than usual on Browns and Lakers. Salmon Fever was the Grand Prize winner with a 16.5 # King for the weekend event. |

With high expectations we dropped lines in similar water to Saturday. The bite was there, but not as fast as the previous day. We picked away at the fish and finished 11 for 14 for a very respectable day on the water. The weather again cooperated with calm to 2' seas. The sun was out making for a beatiful day on the water. With a family of 6 aboard, everyone got to real in a couple fish making for an exciting trip. Northport Nailer spoons and Horse Flies did the heavy lifting again. Sea Mist and Seaweed Horse Flies continue to dominate the back deck when rigged behind Protroll 8" E-chip flashers. Half the bites came on two flies and the remaining bites came on spoons in Greenberry glow (18), purple passion (91), orange ice (41), and mashed bannana glow (12). The bag was made up of one steelhead, 4 kings and 6 lake trout. Fish were either on top or down deep again in the 175-245 fow range. Captain Paul www.salmonheadcharters.com |
